Army Corps announces National Safe Boating Week May 20-26, 2017

BLUE MARSH LAKE — The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Blue Marsh Lake would like to remind all of the importance of wearing a life jacket while boating. Accidents on the water can happen much too fast to reach and put on a stowed life jacket. Drowning is the reported cause of death in three-fourths of all boating fatalities while 85 percent of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were not wearing a life jacket. [Read More]

Army Corps hosts successful Take Pride in Blue Marsh Day

Blue Marsh Lake held its 36th annual “Take Pride in Blue Marsh” volunteer work day on April 29, 2017. More than 350 volunteers assisted with picking up ten cubic yards of litter, planted over 5000 seedlings, replaced two bridges on the trail, rehabilitated the visitor center garden into a pollinator display garden, completed five separate trail projects, built ten new tables, painted twenty five picnic tables, spread mulch in numerous gardens and play pits, landscaped the bathhouse and fee booth areas, general spring time cleanup of the park areas and other activities. Northern Area Engineer retires after 41-year career

Army Corps to reopen Delaware City Bridge

DELAWARE CITY, DE (April 26, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced that it anticipates reopening the Delaware City Bridge (5th street/Rte. 9) on Friday, April 28 2017 barring any weather delays. Army Corps to host annual Take Pride in Blue Marsh Day

Blue Marsh Lake will be holding its 36th annual “Take Pride in Blue Marsh” volunteer work program on April 29, 2017. Army Corps of Engineers to dredge section of Upper Chesapeake Bay

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District will begin maintenance dredging of a section of the Upper Chesapeake Bay in late February of 2017 and is expected to be completed by the end of March 2017. The project area extends from the Sassafras River to Fairlee Creek. Dredged material will be placed at the Poplar Island dredged material containment facility. [Read More]

Philly District remembers former dam operators

In 2016, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District mourned the loss of three former dam operators. Floyd “Jim” Wildrick and Mike Husovich were head dam operators at the Francis E. Walter Dam in White Haven, PA and Carl Warner was the head dam operator at Blue Marsh Lake in Leesport, PA. The three men served the United States Army Corps of Engineers for a combined 101 years. Army Corps awards contract to complete construction of Northern Ocean County dune project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District awarded a contract late yesterday (Jan. 10) to Weeks Marine Inc. for $92 million to construct a dune and berm project between the Manasquan Inlet and Barnegat Inlet in Ocean County, New Jersey. The total cost of the contract could be $128 million if options are awarded. The project is a joint effort of the Army Corps' Philadelphia District and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and is designed to reduce coastal storm damages. [Read More]
