PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 2, 2018) – The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced the schedule for the final water release of the recreation season for the Francis E. Walter Dam in White Haven, PA.

The Army Corps’ 2018 Flow Management Plan allows for a final large water release as part of drawing the reservoir down. The schedule and water release amounts for the final weekend will be as follows:

  • Fri., Oct. 5 -- starting at 2500 cubic feet per second (plus inflow)
  • Sat., Oct. 6 -- stepping down to 1500 cubic feet per second (plus inflow), 2500 cfs max
  • Sun., Oct. 7 -- stepping back to 1000 cubic feet per second (plus inflow) and remaining there until the reservoir returns to its winter elevation of 1300 feet.

The Francis E. Walter Dam was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1961 and has prevented more than $220 million in flood damages. It also supports recreation in the Lehigh Valley with planned fishing and whitewater rafting water releases.
