Northern Area Photo Contest

Attention all shutterbugs! The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District invites you to enter your pictures in our photo contest! As you are out enjoying USACE projects, be sure to have your camera handy to capture the great landscapes, dams, and recreational opportunities that are only found throughout the District’s northern area. Submit your digital photographs beginning April 10, 2018 at 8 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. May 14, 2018. Twelve winners will have their photos included in a digital 2019 calendar as well as featured in a display at the Get Outdoors Event in June at Blue Marsh Lake. The winning photos may also be displayed in Visitor Centers located at Blue Marsh Lake, Beltzville Lake, and Prompton Dam. 

Photos should be taken at the following U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facilities and adjacent state parks:

  • Francis E. Walter Dam
  • Beltzville Dam (and Beltzville State Park)
  • Blue Marsh Lake
  • Prompton Dam (and Prompton State Park)
  • General Edgar Jadwin Dam

Contestants can submit one photo per category in the following categories:

  • Fall
  • Winter
  • Spring
  • Summer

Prompton State Park (adjacent to the Prompton Dam owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District) includes 26 miles of hiking trails and an 18-hole Frisbee golf course. Prompton Dam has prevented more than $23 million in damages since its construction in 1960. It was built in response to severe floods on the Lackawaxen River in 1936, 1942 and 1955.
