Hurricane Sandy Information

Following Hurricane Sandy, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District responded to 27 FEMA missions. These missions involved providing technical assistance to the state of New Jersey; de-watering the critical Passaic Valley Wastewater Treatment Plan; filling the breach at Mantoloking, NJ; and constructing temporary housing at Fort Monmouth, NJ. These missions typify the Philadelphia District's immediate and short-term response efforts.

In the months following the storm, the District has worked to restore its existing Coastal Storm Damage Reduction projects in New Jersey and Delaware. Work has been ongoing and will continue at numerous locations in NJ. Visit the Philadelphia District's Coastal Program website for more information.

Army Corps March 2013 Interim Report to Congress Regarding Hurricane Sandy

Click the above link for a PDF of the March 2013 Interim Report prepared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for Congress as required in the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013, commonly referred to as the Sandy Aid Bill.

The report identifies U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects that are eligible for Sandy Aid bill funding and notes that there is the potential that these projects could be 100 percent federally funded through supplemental funds from that bill. As per page 5 of the report, "the inclusion of a project ... does not mean that the Corps will fund such project with funds provided in the Act, nor are the projects included in this report representative of an exhaustive list of all projects that are under consideration for funding." The Philadelphia District expects Implementation Guidance from USACE Headquarters that will provide guidance as to what projects and/or studies will be funded and at what cost-sharing levels.

As the report was developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Headquarters in Washington, D.C., and involves more than just the Philadelphia District's area of operations, any queries regarding the report's contents should be directed to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters Public Affairs Office at either 202-761-7690 or 202-761-0010.
