CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS: NJ-2

AUTHORITY: Funds from the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013, Public Law 113-2, which was enacted to assist in the recovery in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, were provided to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District to initiate new projects under the Continuing Authorities Program (CAP) in areas impacted by the storm.

HURRICANE SANDY: Hurricane Sandy heavily impacted the Delaware bayshore of Cumberland County. Response and Recovery efforts by the Community were the top priority for the non-Federal sponsor.  Efforts are shifting to the long-term sustainability of the County’s bayshore region.

POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS: Any solution to the flooding problem must keep water out or get people and infrastructure out of the way of water (structure elevation, relocation, etc.).  Solutions may be a beach that needs to be evaluated in terms of response to elevated inlet water levels, etc. or it may be structural in nature.

POTENTIAL SPONSOR: New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and Cumberland County
