Hurricane Sandy made landfall October 29, 2012 near Atlantic City, causing extensive flooding, beach erosion, and coastal damage along the New Jersey shoreline. Point Pleasant, N.J., pictured, was hit hard by the storm. The community is a part of the Manasquan Inlet to Barnegat Inlet Coastal Storm Damage Reduction Project, which had not yet been built when the storm impacted the coast.
