On June 14, 2017, USACE Philadelphia District and Kansas City District leadership participated in a tour of the Welsbach & General Gas Mantle Superfund Site in Gloucester City, NJ. Since 2001, USACE has supported EPA efforts to remediate the site, which has involved investigating soils and structures throughout the site; excavating and removing more than 394,000 tons of radiologically contaminated soil; setting up temporary waste water treatment facilities to remediate ground and surface water, and restoration of site features.
