The project area extends from the Sassafras River to Fairlee Creek. Dredged material will be beneficially reused at the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island located on the eastern side of the Chesapeake Bay.

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company, an Illinois firm, has been awarded a $5.8 million contract for dredging of the shipping channel.

This project is part of the Inland Waterway Delaware River to Chesapeake Bay Project, which helps ensure safe and reliable maritime commerce from the Delaware Bay to the Chesapeake.
