**March 13, 2015 Update – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District made a change to the 2015 F.E. Walter Flow Management Plan at the request of the state. The dates for the 6th and 8th increments of the plan were incorrect.
- Increment 6 dates changed from 22-23 Aug to 29-30 Aug
- Increment 8 dates changed from 29-30 Aug to 5-6 Sept
Whitewater release dates remain unchanged. The increments relate to cfs increases.
Philadelphia, Pa. (Feb. 4 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District released the 2015 Flow Management Plan for the Francis E. Walter Dam in White Haven, PA. The plan, developed in partnership with Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, lists dates and release amounts for whitewater and fisheries releases for the 2015 recreation season.
The plan incorporates several changes from the previous year agreed upon by partner organizations and based on public input. In 2015, water will again be allocated to ensure whitewater releases from July to late August and fisheries releases from July to early September. Seasonal precipitation and water accumulation will be used for releases later in the season (late August through mid-October).
The whitewater release schedule includes 20 dates with the potential for an additional six dates if sufficient water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Planned whitewater release dates are:
- May: 9, 16, 23, 24
- June: 13, 14, 27, 28
- July: 11, 12, 25, 26
- August: 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22, 23, 29*, 30*
- September 5*, 6*
- October 10-11**
*Dependent on additional water accumulation in reservoir
**The 9-12 October release is for both fishing and whitewater and will only occur if sufficient stored water is available. This is the last added increment for the recreation plan and is intended to release all excess water. (See plan for full details)
Planned dates for fishing releases (target 400 cfs)* are:
- March 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22, 28, 29
- April 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26
- May 2, 3, 10, 17
- October 9, 12
*Release will be set to match inflow with a target release up to 400 cfs. Inflow will not be augmented by use of storage to satisfy the 400 cfs target.
The Army Corps will hold a total of 22 fishing releases and 26 whitewater release dates (six of which are dependent on additional precipitation along with fisheries enhancement releases on all other days during the recreation season). Late season whitewater and fisheries enhancement releases are dependent upon additional water becoming available during the year. All dates are dependent on hydrologic conditions and the absence of the need for flood control operations.
