PHILADELPHIA (MARCH 4, 2015) – Lt. Col. Andrew Yoder, Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District, was promoted during a ceremony at the Liberty Bell exhibit on Independence Mall on March 4.
As a senior leader for the Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District, Yoder supervises a staff responsible for managing water resources of the Delaware River basin and the New Jersey and Delaware coasts; building facilities for the Army and Air Force; and providing engineering and environmental services for other agencies.
Yoder enlisted in the Army after graduating from high school. He served three years active duty and five years in the Army Reserves while attending college. Yoder graduated from Temple University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture and was commissioned into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri, Rolla in 2002.
Col. Marc Ferraro, Acting Deputy Adjutant General of the Pennsylvania National Guard, who commissioned Yoder earlier in his career, presided over the promotion ceremony.
Throughout his career, Yoder has served in numerous engineer and command and staff positions in the United States and overseas. His operational deployments include two tours in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan. He has received numerous commendations, including the Bronze Star with two Oak Leaf Clusters and a Bronze DeFleury Medal.
