The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2016 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan.
The Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. There is not enough water storage to schedule the 8th increment (8a and 8b) of the plan, which would have represented an increase in whitewater releases on Sept 3-4. A whitewater release will still take place Sept 3-4, but it will be at a release amount of 650 cubic feet per second.
Previously, the Corps had scheduled the first six increments of the plan and will announce whether the 7th increment is possible at a later date.
- Scheduled - First increment: Add a whitewater event on 27 August (650 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for period 23- 29 July.
- Scheduled - Second increment: Add a whitewater event for 28 August (650 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for period 30 July-5 August. 3.
- Scheduled - Third increment: Add a whitewater event on 3 September (650 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for period 6-12 August.
- Scheduled - Fourth increment: Add whitewater event on 4 September (650 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for period of 13-19 August.
- Scheduled - Fifth increment: Increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for period 22 August through 9 September
- Scheduled - Sixth increment: (6B) - Increase 27-28 August whitewater event total release to 1700 cubic feet per second on Saturday and 1000 cubic feet per second on Sunday.
The Corps will announce at a later date if it is able to hold additional whitewater and fisheries releases. All increments can be viewed here.
