  • Army Corps to present at Wayne County Commissioners public meeting on Jadwin Dam Master Plan revision

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will present at the Wayne County Commissioners working session on March 10, 2026, to kick off a process to revise the 1959 General Edgar Jadwin Dam Master Plan (originally titled Dyberry Reservoir).

  • USACE to host open house to share info on Draft Beltzville Lake Master Plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host an open house on January 7, 2026, to share details on a draft revision of the Beltzville Lake Master Plan. The open house will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the Towamensing Township Volunteer Fire Company. The public open house will cover the proposed changes to the current Beltzville Lake Master Plan. Team members will share instructions on how to submit comments and provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide feedback. A 30-day public comment period will begin on January 7, 2026 and end on February 6, 2026.

  • Army Corps shares details for F.E. Walter Dam water releases

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District shared details for the season’s final recreational water releases from the Francis E. Walter Dam. The recreation plan allows for a large volume of remaining water storage to be released during the second weekend of October to draw down the reservoir to its winter elevation. Due to the dry season, minimal forecasted rainfall and limited surplus of water storage remaining, a ‘mega release’ will not be possible this year.

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2025 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan. The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Currently, there is enough water storage to schedule the 8th and 9th increments of the 2025 Recreation Plan.

  • UPDATE: Army Corps updates road closure status at Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced the Route 940 entrance to the Francis E. Walter Dam will reopen on Sept. 21, 2020 (delayed from the previously announced date of Sept. 18, 2020). The Bear Creek White Haven Road entrance to the dam will then close to traffic as road repairs shift to that area.

Precipitation throughout the early part of the summer has enabled the Army Corps to schedule the first five increments of the plan.

  • Army Corps of Engineers reports an increase in adult drowning at its lake and river projects this summer

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that more than 30 people lost their lives to drowning in June at lake and river projects the agency manages. The June statistics represent a 47 percent increase in drownings over the same time period last year. USACE also reported that nearly all the drowning victims were adult males between the ages of 18 and 85 and were not wearing a life jacket at the time of the drowning.
