The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2019 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan.

The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Precipitation throughout the early part of the summer has enabled the Army Corps to schedule the first five increments of the plan, which includes the following additions:

  • 1. Add whitewater event on Aug. 24 (inflow plus 650 cubic feet per second up to 850 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of July 20-26.
  • 2. Add the white water event for Aug. 25 (inflow plus 650 cubic feet per second up to 850 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of July 27-Aug. 2.
  • 3. Add whitewater event on Aug. 31 (inflow plus 650 cubic feet per second up to 850 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of Aug. 3-9.
  • 4. Add whitewater event on Sept. 1 (inflow plus 650 cubic feet per second up to 850 cubic feet per second) and increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for the period of Aug. 10-16.
  • 5. Increase fisheries enhancement releases to 100 cubic feet per second for period of Aug. 17-Sept. 6.

The Army Corps will announce at a later date if it is able to hold additional whitewater and fisheries releases.
