  • LTC Michael Bliss assumes command of the USACE Philadelphia District

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District ushered in a new era of leadership as Lt. Col. Michael A. Bliss assumed command from Lt. Col. John C. Becking during a July 1 ceremony in the Wanamaker Building's Crystal Tea Room. Bliss is the 58th commander in the District's history.
  • Army Corps and contractor to begin repairing Barnegat Inlet Jetty

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to repair the north jetty at Barnegat Inlet, which protects the southern tip of state-owned Island Beach State Park. The work is part of a larger effort to repair USACE projects damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The contract was awarded to Agate Construction Company of Clermont, N.J. for $7.6 million to repair approximately 740 feet of the jetty on the north side of the inlet that was damaged due to Superstorm Sandy. The project is expected to begin later this month and extend to the fall.
  • Army Corps to begin restoring LBI project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District and its contractor will begin restoring the previously constructed Coastal Storm Damage Reduction project on Long Beach Island later this month.
  • Summit Bridge to close weekend of April 19

    Philadelphia, Pa. – The Summit Bridge will be closed to traffic from Friday, April 19, at 10 p.m., to Monday, April 22, at 5 a.m., the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District announced today. The closure is necessary to facilitate steel repairs and to accommodate the heavy machinery necessary to paint higher sections of the bridge and to replace several concrete barriers, called parapets, that separate traffic and provide protection at the edge of the outer lanes.
  • Army Corps to announce 2013 F.E. Walter Dam recreation program

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District will host a meeting to announce the 2013 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation program on March 7 in White Haven, PA. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Mountain Laurel Resort off of Pennsylvania Route 940.
  • Reedy Point Bridge open for the winter

    Both lanes of the Reedy Point Bridge, a cantilever truss bridge that carries Delaware Route 9 over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal, are now open to traffic. Except for a day or two of testing, in which case one lane will be closed, both lanes will remain open until the spring.
  • Blue Marsh Lake to waive fees for Public Lands Day; invites volunteers to assist with projects

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced Blue Marsh Lake will waive all day use fees for visitors in celebration of National Public Lands Day Sept. 29 and 30. National Public Lands Day (NPLD), an event held annually in September, showcases our nation’s public lands and the importance of protecting natural resources through responsible use and volunteerism.
