Army Corps announces lane closure plan for Reedy Point Bridge repairs

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced lane closures will be enacted along the Reedy Point Bridge in New Castle County, DE. Lane closures will begin on/about May 28th and last through mid-August as part of ongoing repair work to the bridge.

USACE’s contractor is conducting repairs to the bridge piers and miscellaneous steel repairs. The purpose of the repair work is to improve the overall condition and safety of the bridge.

Lane closure updates will be reported to the Delaware Department of Transportation, and are currently estimated as noted below (subject to change based on weather and site conditions):

  • May 28 2024 to Mid-August, 2024: Traffic will be restricted to one lane but will permit traffic to continue in both directions using temporary traffic signals. These lights will operate continuously during this period.

The Reedy Point Bridge is a cantilever truss bridge that carries two lanes of Delaware Route 9 over the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal.
