  • Army Corps of Engineers reports an increase in adult drowning at its lake and river projects this summer

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that more than 30 people lost their lives to drowning in June at lake and river projects the agency manages. The June statistics represent a 47 percent increase in drownings over the same time period last year. USACE also reported that nearly all the drowning victims were adult males between the ages of 18 and 85 and were not wearing a life jacket at the time of the drowning.
  • Blue Marsh Lake Swimming Beach to Open; Restrictions in Place for Holiday Weekend

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the swimming beach at Blue Marsh Lake will open to the public on July 2, 2020. The bathhouse and shower facilities at the beach will also open. Visitation in the Dry Brooks Day Use Area will be limited to 75% capacity. Park Rangers will be monitoring the visitation and closing the area as needed.
  • Blue Marsh Lake Stilling Basin Closure Announcement

    Beginning on June 29, 2020, portions of the Blue Marsh Lake Stilling Basin and Multi-Use Trail will be closed to the public. This closure is related to the ongoing Western Berks Water Authority pipeline construction project to connect the treatment plant directly to the dam.
  • Army Corps updates water release schedule at Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2019 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan. The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Precipitation throughout the early part of the summer has enabled the Army Corps to schedule the first five increments of the plan.
  • Blue Marsh Lake Day Use Area to Re-Open

    With the reduction in lake level, the staff at Blue Marsh will open the Dry Brooks Day Use area and Church Road Access for day use activities on Saturday, May 3. Swimming at the beach area will be prohibited. Restroom facilities at both areas will be restricted to portable toilets only.
  • Army Corps announces F.E. Walter Dam water release schedule

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District released the 2014 Flow Management Plan for the Francis E. Walter Dam in White Haven, Penn. The plan, developed in partnership with Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, lists dates and release amounts for whitewater and fisheries releases for the 2014 recreation season.
