  • Chief of Engineers visits Philadelphia District

    Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Bostick, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Commanding General and the Chief of Engineers, toured the Philadelphia District and met with leadership, staff, student interns, and the crew of the Dredge McFarland during an April 22-23 visit.
  • Army Corps dredges Barnegat Inlet

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducted dredging operations at Barnegat Inlet in New Jersey earlier this month. The work involved removing 60,000 cubic yards of sand and material from the federal channel prior to the summer boating season. The Dredge MURDEN, owned and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Wilmington District, conducted work in the inlet.

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District released the 2014 Flow Management Plan for the Francis E. Walter Dam in White Haven, Penn. The plan, developed in partnership with Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, lists dates and release amounts for whitewater and fisheries releases for the 2014 recreation season.
  • Army Corps to temporarily close road at Francis E. Walter Dam due to weather

    Philadelphia, Pa. (Feb 14, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District will close the Francis E. Walter Dam road (between Bear Creek Road and Route 940) due to poor visibility and snow cover through the holiday weekend. Staff will continue to work to clear snow.
  • Army Corps and contractor to begin repairing Barnegat Inlet Jetty

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to repair the north jetty at Barnegat Inlet, which protects the southern tip of state-owned Island Beach State Park. The work is part of a larger effort to repair USACE projects damaged by Hurricane Sandy. The contract was awarded to Agate Construction Company of Clermont, N.J. for $7.6 million to repair approximately 740 feet of the jetty on the north side of the inlet that was damaged due to Superstorm Sandy. The project is expected to begin later this month and extend to the fall.
