Army Corps awards contract for design and construction of new dredge

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) has awarded Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. of Panama City, FL, a contract worth $256.9 million for the design and construction of a Medium Class Hopper Dredge (MCHD) to replace the Dredge McFARLAND of the Corps’ Philadelphia District. The Dredge McFARLAND is one of four oceangoing hopper dredges owned and operated by the Army Corps of Engineers.

The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District updated the 2023 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan. The Army Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir.

Army Corps Philly District conducts Changes of Command ceremony

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District ushered in new leadership as Lt. Col. Jeffrey Beeman assumed command of the organization from Lt. Col. Ramon Brigantti during a July 7th ceremony in the Wanamaker Building's Crystal Tea Room in Center City Philadelphia. Beeman became the 62nd commander in the District's 157-year history.
