• USACE works around the clock to provide emergency power in wake of Hurricane Sandy

    In support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is actively working to provide temporary emergency power in areas of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania affected by Hurricane Sandy. USACE teams have deployed to strategic locations to help at critical facilities like hospitals, nursing homes and shelters.
  • Army engineers begin debris removal mission

    Through a collaborative effort of federal, state and local government agencies, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers North Atlantic Division deployed technical experts from across the country to New Jersey and New York City today to support a FEMA debris removal mission assignment. The initial focus of the mission is to assess and clear debris in support of the ongoing Emergency Temporary Power Mission. The Corps is currently supporting 35 FEMA mission assignments as the Northeast continues to recover from Hurricane Sandy.
  • Army Corps begins assessing Hurricane Sandy damages

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District began inspecting its projects for damages and carrying out post-storm missions following historic Hurricane Sandy. Inspections are scheduled for a number of Army Corps of Engineers projects in the region, including coastal projects in New Jersey and Delaware, dams in eastern Pennsylvania and navigational channels in rivers and inlets. District Commander Lt. Col. Chris Becking inspected the Absecon Island beach nourishment project in Atlantic City and Ventnor on Oct. 30.
  • Army Corps to temporarily close road at Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District will temporarily close the Francis E. Walter Dam road (between Bear Creek Road and Route 940) from Oct. 15 at 7:00 a.m. to Oct. 19 at 5:00 p.m. for repair work.
  • Blue Marsh Lake to waive fees for Public Lands Day; invites volunteers to assist with projects

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced Blue Marsh Lake will waive all day use fees for visitors in celebration of National Public Lands Day Sept. 29 and 30. National Public Lands Day (NPLD), an event held annually in September, showcases our nation’s public lands and the importance of protecting natural resources through responsible use and volunteerism.
  • Army Corps to hold public comment meeting for F.E. Walter recreation plan

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District will host a meeting to review the 2012 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan and solicit feedback for next year’s plan. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Holiday Inn Express in White Haven, Pa.

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers Philadelphia District announced it has enough water storage to hold a whitewater release Sept. 1 from the Francis E. Walter Dam. The release will be 650 cubic feet per second plus inflow up to 850 cubic feet per second.
  • Army Corps to hold ribbon cutting ceremony at Prompton Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:00 a.m. Aug. 22 at Prompton Dam. The ceremony recognizes the completion of a two-phase construction project which included modifying the dam spillway, building an operations center and maintenance garage and constructing a new access road and spillway bridge to the dam
