  • Army Corps awards contract for Long Beach Island beachfill project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District has awarded a  $54.4 million contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Oak Brook, Ill. to complete periodic nourishment of the Barnegat Inlet to Little Egg Inlet, (Long Beach Island), Coastal Storm Risk Management project. The project is a joint effort of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and the municipalities on Long Beach Island. Work is designed to maintain the dune and berm system in the communities and reduce the risk of storm damages to coastal infrastructure. 
  • Swim Beach Closed at Blue Marsh Lake

    Swimming at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area of Blue Marsh Lake is currently restricted due to high bacteria levels. Water sample results obtained from testing over the weekend indicated high levels of e-coli bacteria.  The swim beach will remain closed until bacteria levels return to a safe level for public use. This restriction applies to designated swim area.  Picnicking, boating, and other activities are not currently restricted. Visitors that choose to enter the water for activities in other areas of the lake are reminded that the water is not tested, and that swimming at Blue Marsh Lake is at one’s own risk. Updates will be provided as conditions change.
  • Swimming Area Reopened at Blue Marsh Lake

    The swimming area at Blue Marsh Lake’s Dry Brooks Day Use Area has been reopened for public use. Water quality test results now indicate that E. coli bacteria levels have returned to a level that meets state standards for swim beaches. The public is reminded that swimming at Blue Marsh Lake is at one’s own risk, and lifeguards are not on duty. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers wants you to stay safe.   • Swimming Area Closed at Blue Marsh Lake

    Swimming at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area of Blue Marsh Lake is currently restricted due to high bacteria levels. Water tests will be done daily until the levels return to a safe level for public use. This only affects the water area, picnicking and boating will not be restricted at the lake. We would also like to remind those visitors that choose to enter the water at other areas of the lake, that the water in those areas is not tested and that swimming at Blue Marsh Lake is “swim at your own risk.” Updates will be provided as conditions change.
  • Army Corps shares update on Salem River dredging

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced an update on a dredging and marsh restoration project at the mouth of the Salem River in New Jersey. Dredging operations will begin in early July as part of contract that was awarded to Cottrell Contracting Corporation in December 2023.
  • Army Corps to host public meeting on upcoming Indian River Inlet repairs

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District will host a public meeting regarding upcoming repairs and construction at the Indian River Inlet in Sussex County, Delaware. The meeting will be held April 12 from 11:00-12:30 at the Hyatt Dewey Place (1301 Coastal Hwy, Dewey Beach, DE 19971). The meeting will focus on upcoming repair work of a bulkhead along the north shoreline and sand tightening work along the south jetty. USACE has awarded a contract for this work to Agate Construction Co., Inc. of Egg Harbor Township, N.J. Work is estimated to begin later in the month.
  • USACE to host open house to share info on Draft Blue Marsh Lake Master Plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will host an open house on Feb. 29, 2024, to share details on a draft revision of the Blue Marsh Lake Master Plan. The open house will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Berks County Agricultural Center, 1238 County Welfare Road, Leesport, PA 19533.
