  • Army Corps Philly District conducts Changes of Command ceremony

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District ushered in new leadership as Lt. Col. Jeffrey Beeman assumed command of the organization from Lt. Col. Ramon Brigantti during a July 7th ceremony in the Wanamaker Building's Crystal Tea Room in Center City Philadelphia. Beeman became the 62nd commander in the District's 157-year history. 
  • Army Corps awards contract for Delaware River maintenance dredging

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to Seaward Marine of Norfolk, Va. for $12.9 million to conduct maintenance dredging of portions of the federal channel of the Delaware River between Philadelphia and Trenton.

  • Army Corps updates water release schedule for Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced an update to the 2023 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan. With long-term forecasts showing little significant rainfall, USACE anticipates the four scheduled whitewater releases in June will be reduced and evenly allocated based on available water storage. The projected weekend flow during the reduced whitewater events in June will be announced the Wednesday prior to each event.
  • Army Corps awards contract for Brigantine beach nourishment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to Norfolk Dredging Company for $14 million to conduct periodic nourishment of the Brigantine dune and berm Coastal Storm Risk Management project. The project is a joint effort between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and the City of Brigantine.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District shared an update on the construction schedule for ongoing dune and beach nourishment work along the Delaware coast. USACE’s contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc., is mobilizing a third hopper dredge to the site, which will significantly impact the schedule with construction beginning earlier than anticipated in several communities.
