  • Army Corps updates water release schedule for Francis E. Walter Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced an update to the 2023 Francis E. Walter Dam recreation plan. With long-term forecasts showing little significant rainfall, USACE anticipates the four scheduled whitewater releases in June will be reduced and evenly allocated based on available water storage. The projected weekend flow during the reduced whitewater events in June will be announced the Wednesday prior to each event.
  • Army Corps awards contract for Brigantine beach nourishment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract to Norfolk Dredging Company for $14 million to conduct periodic nourishment of the Brigantine dune and berm Coastal Storm Risk Management project. The project is a joint effort between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and the City of Brigantine.

  • Army Corps shares update on Beltzville Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District shared an update on the water quality selective withdrawal system at Beltzville Dam in Carbon County, PA. The selective withdrawal system requires maintenance and will be unavailable until repairs are completed. This means USACE will be unable to manipulate downstream temperatures within Pohopoco Creek.
  • Army Corps shares update on schedule for beach nourishment along Delaware Coast

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District shared an update on the construction schedule for ongoing dune and beach nourishment work along the Delaware coast. USACE’s contractor, Weeks Marine, Inc., is mobilizing a third hopper dredge to the site, which will significantly impact the schedule with construction beginning earlier than anticipated in several communities.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District shared an update on repair work on the Chesapeake City Bridge in Cecil County, Maryland. Work includes repairs of the bridge expansion joints and will require periodic single-lane closures.
  • Army Corps to conduct repairs on St. Georges Bridge; bridge to remain closed to traffic for 18 months

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District is reminding motorists, bicyclists, and nearby residents that a major repair project will commence in April at the St. Georges Bridge along the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal in New Castle County, Delaware. During construction, the bridge will remain closed to all traffic for approximately 18 months. St. Georges Bridge will close to all traffic starting on April 4, 2023.
