The applicant, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DDNREC), proposes to pump sand via hydraulic dredge from a borrow area located 600 feet to 1,600 feet offshore of Lewes beach onto Lewes Beach. The nourishment template provides for the placement of approximately 75,000 cubic yards of sand over 13.3 acres along the shoreline. The pumped sand will be shaped according to the design template via bulldozers. The activity would be an extension of the abutting United States Army Corps of Engineers beach nourishment project expected to occur during the fall/winter of 2023/2024. The purpose of the project is to provide erosion and storm protection to infrastructure and maintain public beach recreation. The project is expected to take approximately 1 to 2 months to complete.
