• Blue Marsh Lake Swimming Beach to Open; Restrictions in Place for Holiday Weekend

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced the swimming beach at Blue Marsh Lake will open to the public on July 2, 2020. The bathhouse and shower facilities at the beach will also open. Visitation in the Dry Brooks Day Use Area will be limited to 75% capacity. Park Rangers will be monitoring the visitation and closing the area as needed.
  • Blue Marsh Lake Stilling Basin Closure Announcement

    Beginning on June 29, 2020, portions of the Blue Marsh Lake Stilling Basin and Multi-Use Trail will be closed to the public. This closure is related to the ongoing Western Berks Water Authority pipeline construction project to connect the treatment plant directly to the dam.
  • Army Corps announces upcoming lane closures on SR-1 Bridge in Delaware

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District will be conducting concrete deck repairs on the Senator William V. Roth, Jr. Bridge (SR-1) in Delaware beginning July 6th and ending in late August. The repair work will require single lane closures.

  • Army Corps observes National Dam Safety Awareness Day

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District recognizes National Dam Safety Awareness Day on May 31, which commemorates the 1889 failure of the South Fork Dam in Johnstown, Pa. The event was the nation’s worst dam failure and resulted in more than 2000 deaths. The USACE Philadelphia District owns and operates five earthfill dams in eastern Pennsylvania, which have prevented approximately $415 million in flood damages since their construction
  • Army Corps announces signing of Chief’s Report for New Jersey study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announces that Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, USACE Commanding General and the 54th U.S. Army Chief of Engineers, has signed the Chief’s Report for the “New Jersey Beneficial Use of Dredged Material for the Delaware River Feasibility Study” — a significant milestone for the proposed project. The signing of the report advances the project to Congress for authorization.
  • Blue Marsh Lake Water Road Access Area Closed

    Due to land clearing and excavation activity involved with the construction of a pipeline from Blue Marsh Dam to the Western Berks Water Authority water treatment plant, the Water Road access area will be closed for public access. This includes trail access and stream access for fishing.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District is providing initial planning and engineering support for the States of New Jersey and Delaware to address possible medical facility shortages due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The mission, in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the two states, is part of a nationwide federal, state and local effort to respond to the public health emergency.
