Army Corps to reduce Reedy Point Bridge traffic to one lane

PHILADELPHIA (March 26, 2015) –- Traffic on the Reedy Point Bridge will be reduced to one lane beginning the morning of April 1 to enable the replacement of a fence over the bridge, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced today. The Army Corps expects the one-lane restriction to remain in effect until approximately May 1. During that period traffic will be controlled by portable traffic signals at each end of the lane that remains open.

Army Corps invites comment on Delaware shellfish aquaculture program

PHILADELPHIA (January 22, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District today posted a proposal that would govern aquaculture in the Delaware Inland Bays and invited the public to comment. The proposal would govern regulation of shellfish aquaculture in a region that includes Rehoboth Bay, Indian River Bay, Little Assawoman Bay and Delaware’s portion of the Big Assawoman Bay.

Philly District earns Emergency Management accreditation

The distinction is the result of a comprehensive evaluation of District emergency management programs and activities including planning; resource management; training; exercises, evaluations, and corrective actions; and communications and warning.

Army Corps awards contract to complete construction of Long Beach Island dune project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District awarded a contract Dec. 5 to the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company for $128 million to complete the initial construction of the Long Beach Island Coastal Storm Damage Reduction project in New Jersey. The project is a joint effort of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Army Corps awards contract for Southern Ocean City, Strathmere and Sea Isle beachfill

PHILADELPHIA (November 10, 2014) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $57.6-million contract to the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company for a coastal and storm damage reduction project extending from the southern end of Ocean City to Strathmere and Sea Isle. The project, which entails the construction of a dune and a berm, or beach, in front of each community, is a joint effort of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Army Corps updates water release schedule at Francis E. Walter Dam

The U.S. Army Corps Engineers’ Philadelphia District has updated the recreation plan for the Francis E. Walter Dam. The Corps updated the plan, which states whitewater and fisheries releases will be scheduled if enough water storage is accumulated in the reservoir. Precipitation throughout the spring and summer has allowed the Corps to add the first five increments of the plan, which includes 4 additional whitewater releases and fisheries enhancement water releases from July 26-Sept 12
