Celebrate “Get Outdoors Day” at Blue Marsh Lake

National Get Outdoors Day at Blue Marsh Lake will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Berks County Parks & Recreation Department will offer a full day of outdoor activities from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area. More than 35 clubs and organizations will be on site to celebrate National Get Outdoors Day and Get Outdoors PA.

PHILADELPHIA (JUNE 5, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District was recently recognized with the North Atlantic Division Commanding General's Safety Award of Excellence for its ongoing commitment to a safe and healthy work environment. The District is now under consideration for nationwide safety honors.

Army Corps to host flood proofing workshops in Ambler

PHILADELPHIA (June 5, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting two public workshops on the use of nonstructural measures for reducing flood risk to residential, commercial and public property. The meetings will be held on June 22 and June 24 at the Daniel Dowling Legion Post in Ambler, PA.

President's Fiscal 2018 Budget for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program released

The President’s Budget for fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018) includes $5.002 billion in gross discretionary funding for the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). "The fiscal 2018 Civil Works budget for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reflects the administration's priorities to support and improve the nation's economy and infrastructure, and to protect the American people," said Mr. Doug Lamont, senior official performing the duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. "This Budget supports the core mission areas of coastal and inland navigation, reducing flood risks from riverine flooding and along our coasts, and restoring aquatic ecosystems.”

Army Corps announces National Safe Boating Week May 20-26, 2017

BLUE MARSH LAKE — The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Blue Marsh Lake would like to remind all of the importance of wearing a life jacket while boating. Accidents on the water can happen much too fast to reach and put on a stowed life jacket. Drowning is the reported cause of death in three-fourths of all boating fatalities while 85 percent of drowning victims in recreational boating accidents were not wearing a life jacket.

Army Corps hosts successful Take Pride in Blue Marsh Day

Blue Marsh Lake held its 36th annual “Take Pride in Blue Marsh” volunteer work day on April 29, 2017. More than 350 volunteers assisted with picking up ten cubic yards of litter, planted over 5000 seedlings, replaced two bridges on the trail, rehabilitated the visitor center garden into a pollinator display garden, completed five separate trail projects, built ten new tables, painted twenty five picnic tables, spread mulch in numerous gardens and play pits, landscaped the bathhouse and fee booth areas, general spring time cleanup of the park areas and other activities.

Northern Area Engineer retires after 41-year career

BELTZVILLE (April 29, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District is bidding farewell to George Sauls, the Northern Area Engineer who retired after serving for more than 40 years. He was closely involved with numerous civil works projects and mentored many employees throughout his career.

Army Corps to reopen Delaware City Bridge

DELAWARE CITY, DE (April 26, 2017) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Philadelphia District announced that it anticipates reopening the Delaware City Bridge (5th street/Rte. 9) on Friday, April 28 2017 barring any weather delays. Additional work in the surrounding area will continue after April 28, but will not impact vehicular traffic.
